We decided to book flights from East Midlands airport as they were over £150 cheaper per person than the London airports. Took us about 2 hours to drive to the airport and we stayed overnight in the hotel located on airport which included parking, we could have literally walked to the terminal from the hotel.

The airport is mid size but has a range of facilities, services and shops. The check in and passport control counters were much quicker than most airports which made the whole process from check in to boarding very quick, easy and stress free. Would certainly use this airport again if there was a considerable cost difference between London airports, if only to avoid the rush at the London airports.
